Domaine La Soumade was founded by André Roméro in 1979. By 1990, this passionate winegrower had achieved his long-cherished ambition of selling his entire production in bottle. And in 1996, André was joined by his son Frédéric, after he had obtained his BEPA Diploma in viticulture and oenology. A new modern winery was built in 2002, the same year that a partnership with consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt and his team began. Stéphane encouraged gentler and more finely-tuned vinification techniques, so as to better reflect the unique expression and potential of the terroir. Without doubt, the wines have achieved greater finesse and purity. As of today, the estate covers 26 hectares in the commune of Rasteau and an additional hectare in Gigondas - a small terraced vineyard near the Dentelles de Montmirail. The clay - limestone soils of Rasteau produce naturally powerful wines with great ageing potential.
What The Critics Say
93-95/100 (?) Parker's wine Advocate, Joes Czerwinski
"Tasted from a couple different foudres, the base of the 2017 Rasteau Cuvee Confiance looks strong. One lot showed bright raspberry fruit, tight and clenched, angry at being disturbed, while another was richer and more complex, offering hints of black cherry and blueberry in addition to the raspberries and silky tannins." Drink 2022 - 2035
92/100 Decanter, Matt Walls
"Fermented in 65hl open-top tronconic wooden vats, this wine is then aged for 18 months in foudres on its fine lees. It's a medium-weight style with refined tannins and great purity and length of red berry fruits. Silky and elegant, this is a beautifully tailored wine." Drink 2019 - 2021
