2013 Ashwood Single Vineyard Gisborne Chardonnay

Because we have shifted so much Ashwood wine we have been offered the same deal as the previous vintage so jump onto this- its a steal. This has a RRP of $36. Hand picked from a vineyard on the 'Golden Slopes' this is the chardonnay we crave to buy- good old fashioned Gisborne chardonnay but with real sophistication. Ashwood is the top-flight wine label of Murray MacPhail, third-generation Gisborne farmer who under his ‘Leaderbrand’ company is the region’s largest land user, horticultural supplier and grape-grower. Murray has had the two of the region’s top winemakers, Steve Voysey and Nick Nobilo make his Chardonnay and Pinot Gris respectively. The bouquet is elegantly concentrated and packed with citrus fruits, melon and toasty oak. Softly concentrated it has a core of yellow stonefruits and nutty flavours enlivened by lacy acidity and complimented by classy oak. This is an elegant but bold, complex-flavoured Chardonnay that we crave to offer- so grab it.

2012 Jadot Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne

"The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos la Garenne comes from 90-year-old vines that are naturally low yielding. It offers a beguiling bouquet with hints of cold stone and yellow flowers all delicately placed. The palate is medium-bodied with a less viscous opening than Jadot-s other Puligny premier crus. This is more sedate but no less attractive with a harmonious, lightly peppered finish that lingers long in the mouth. Excellent once more!" 92-94 Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate


2012 Jadot Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Folatieres

"The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres comes from vines on the upper reaches of the climat, just 50-meters from Chevalier-Montrachet. It has a very refined bouquet with subtle mineral scents, smoke and some pressed flowers. The palate is well-balanced with a fine line of acidity that neatly counterbalances the rounded, rich, lightly honeyed fruit, leaving the finish voluminous and satisfying. 2011 Jadot Meursault "Perrieres"

"While this shares some aromatic elements of the Genevrières this is notably more floral and displays added breadth in the form of citrus zest, mineral reduction and pain grillé. There is excellent volume and very fine detail to the intensely stony medium-bodied flavors that deliver impressive depth "90-92 Burghound "Bright, light yellow. Classic Perrieres nose combines lemon, orange blossom, minerals and wet stone. Round, ripe and broad, displaying lovely intensity and inner-mouth perfume to its mineral-rich flavors of citrus fruits, white flowers, vanilla and toasted bread. Harmonious and very long. 2011 Jadot Chassagne Montrachet "Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle

One of the more intensely mineral Chassagnes in the range, the Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos De La Chapellet is drop-dead gorgeous. Flint, smoke, graphite, tangerine and almond notes all blossom in a Chassagne that is at once powerful yet refined. The flavors are vivid and totally nuanced in this impeccable Morgeot from Jadot. 94 points Antonio Galloni. "Bright lemon-yellow. Complex aromas of citrus peel, pear, minerals and anise. Juicy, brisk and penetrating, with lovely inner-mouth floral character to the delineated fruit and mineral flavors. Finishes with very good sneaky length and a firm citrus spine that calls for four or five years of cellaring. Pungent and backward for this bottling. "92 Tanzer


2013 Guigal Cotes du Rhone Blanc

Normally $25. This was a huge hit last time we had a deal on it as its so drinkable. 90/100 from Parker who writes "A great vintage for whites, the 2013 Cotes du Rhone Blanc (mostly Viognier) has outstanding notes of white peach and tangerine to go with an elegant, seamless style on the palate. It’s a smoking value to drink over the coming 1-2 years.


2012 Riverby Eliza Riesling

The only riesling to win a Gold Medal at all three of the top NZ Wine Shows and 93/100 by Bob Campell- a remarkable achievement to have such consistent outstanding results. "Moderately sweet Riesling with good intensity and purity. Mineral, citrus/lime and floral characters with a lovely interplay between sweetness and taut acidity. Delicious wine that promises to get even more interesting with bottle age." Bob Campbell


2011 D'Yquem

(en primeur price all up final landed cost due in mid 2014) The 2011 has a clear silvery gold hue, perhaps not quite as deep as I recall the 2010 last year. The bouquet is very fragrant and well‐defined, with scents of wild honey, honeysuckle and a touch of vanilla. It is a refined, sedate and beautifully focused bouquet that does not need to show off. The palate displays superb weight in the mouth, even though at first it seems almost understated. Yet there is clearly a high level of spicy, botrytized fruit with notes of honey, orange zest and a touch of mandarin. There is no explosion on the finish; the 2011 is rather a lesson in control, complexity and nuance. It is utterly seductive. Drink 2016‐2040+.score 96-98 Neal Martin – The en primeur sample of Château d'Yquem Sauternes 2011 is also presented at Cheval-Blanc. Its usual classic blend of 80/20 Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc captures the beautiful cut and freshness of the vintage, with blazing pineapple, white peach, yellow apple and melon flavors that are remarkably light on their feet. Blanched ginger root, cherry blossom and light citrus notes dance through the finish. The wine is already showing terrific range and purity in a very, very stylish frame.
