2011 Jadot Chassagne Montrachet "Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle

One of the more intensely mineral Chassagnes in the range, the Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos De La Chapellet is drop-dead gorgeous. Flint, smoke, graphite, tangerine and almond notes all blossom in a Chassagne that is at once powerful yet refined. The flavors are vivid and totally nuanced in this impeccable Morgeot from Jadot. 94 points Antonio Galloni. "Bright lemon-yellow. Complex aromas of citrus peel, pear, minerals and anise. Juicy, brisk and penetrating, with lovely inner-mouth floral character to the delineated fruit and mineral flavors. Finishes with very good sneaky length and a firm citrus spine that calls for four or five years of cellaring. Pungent and backward for this bottling. "92 Tanzer

2011 Jadot Corton Charlemagne

"Like the Montrachet, this is also presently quite aromatically reticent with its aromas of lemon/lime, wet stone and Granny Smith apples that are trimmed in a subtle application of warm oak. The equally expansive, taut and well-muscled broad-shouldered flavors possess an ample amount of dry extract and intensity on the driving finish that exhibits a faint saline character. I very much like the intensity here as well as the very dry backend and this should be superb if allowed adequate cellar time."92-95 Burghound "Pale lemon-yellow. Pungent aromas of pineapple, lavender, white pepper, stone and menthol. Dense, supple and sweet but with terrific stony cut to its citrus, pineapple and fresh herb flavors. Penetrating but not at all hard. The very firmly structured finish shows excellent limey persistence and lift. "94+ Tanzer

2013 Domaine du Bagnol Cassis Blanc

A great new wine from a new producer for us. Domaine du Bagnol is a tiny producer with vineyards situated beneath a dramatic limestone outcrop on the hill above the sun-soaked village of Cassis in Southern France, just 200 metres from the Mediterranean. This is a beautiful dry and juicy white with fresh white fruit flavours. A perfect match with seafood dishes. Marsanne (51%) is the dominant grape variety complemented by Clairette Blanc (31%) and some Ugni Blanc (18%). The vineyards to produce the white wine at Bagnol cover a bit less than 9 hectares and are planted on a gentle slope of clay and limestone soil with a north – northwest exposure. After a manual harvest, the grapes are destemmed and pressed; the fermentation continues for three weeks in cement cuves at a temperature controlled 18 degrees Celsius; the wine is vinified completely dry.

2014 Okiwa Marlborugh Sauvignon Blanc

Made by the superb Highfield Winery and overdelivers for the money. Aromas of ripley scented stonefruit, guava and gooseberry and hints of soft herbs and passionfruit. The palate is fruit-driven and textural bursting with fresh pineapple grapefruit and gooseberry flavours. A long and refreshing wine with good complexity and a soft citrus finish. Wonderful with seafood. Well done Highfield.

2014 Cloudy Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

The 2014 Sauvignon Blanc is a definitive expression of the region and its season. Appealing concentration and poise suggests a wine with the ability to age. The nose is bright with aromas of kaffir lime and grapefruit. A generous palate reveals ripe citrus, stone fruit and lemongrass flavours balanced by crunchy acidity. Perhaps the hallmark of this vintage is its persistent finish rich with minerality.

2014 Stanley Estate Single Vineyard Awatere Chardonnay

Normal RRP $28 and with Eveline Fraser ( ex Cloudy Bay ) as winemaker this is a great buy. 17.5/20 from Raymond Chan writing "This has a softly concentrated nose with well packed stonefruit, citrus fruit and mealy aromas melded harmoniously with complexing flint and mineral elements, nuts and a creamy barrel-ferment note. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a firm and dense core of stonefruits, citrus fruits and mealy elements, layered with flint, mineral and oaky detail. The mouthfeel has weight and vinosity, the palate flowing along a smooth, near creamy line. A fine phenolic thread and lacy acidity balances the fruit and barrel-ferment richness, and the wine carries to a slender, lingering dry finish with citrus nuances. This is a well-concentrated, weighty Chardonnay with nutty and citrus flavours, and a creamy, fine-textured line. Match with seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit from 12 y.o. vines, barrel-fermented, 60% by indigenous yeasts to13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 10% new French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage. 127 dozen made. 17.5+/20 May 2015 RRP $28.50." A GOOD BUY

2012 Vidal Legacy Hawkes Bay Chardonnay

The Best Chardonnay in the world comes from Vidal Estate Under the diligent eye of winemaker Hugh Crichton, the Vidal Legacy Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2012, has received the International Chardonnay Trophy in the over-fifteen pounds category at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards 2015. More than 16,000 wines were judged by a panel of 240 wine experts including some of the world’s greatest winemakers, sommeliers and Masters of Wine at the awards, held in London. This is the pinnacle of the recognition this wine has so far picked up, with three trophies received in other competitions. Crichton has achieved greatness with Hawkes Bay Chardonnay, his last five vintages* of Vidal Estate’s premium Chardonnays picking up top awards globally. “Ultimately these awards are an affirmation to the world that Hawkes Bay makes fantastic Chardonnay. The Vidal Legacy Chardonnay, is made in limited quantities from our greatest Chardonnay vineyards. The region’s climate and our vineyards bring elements of freshness to the wine, so it’s not too big and heavy, but has concentration of flavour and depth of complexity. These are all qualities which great wines should have, but not all parts of the world can deliver,” said Crichton. Decanter World Wine Awards tasting note for the International Trophy winner, Hawkes Bay 2012 said: “Distinctly modern New Zealand Chardonnay, full of gun smoke, grapefruit skin, toast, vanilla and sizzling butter aromas. White nectarine and peach flavours greet you on the palate which is broad, rich and creamy, yet manages to retain a distinct elegance, with lovely length and a pleasingly dry finish.” The Vidal Legacy Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2012 also achieved the following awards: • Regional Trophy - Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2014 • Champion Exhibition White Wine Trophy – Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2014 • Champion Wine of Show and Bragato Trophy Winner - Bragato Wine Awards 2014

A superb buy for a quality gewtz. from a producer that always over delivers. 95/100 from Bob Campbell in Gourment Traveller Magazine writing " Made by Riverby using grower grapes. A lush, medium- dry style with pronounced varietal rose petal, potpourri, anise and cinnamon flavours. It is a lovely wine showing good concentration and balance."

2013 Millton Clos St Anne ‘La Bas’ Chenin Blanc

“From a section of the vineyard 'down there' ( La Bas ), the 2013 vintage was grown in Millton's Clos de Ste Anne hillside vineyard at Manutuke, in Gisborne. 19/20 from Raymond Chan " 19/20 from Raymond Chan writing-" The nose is very elegant, tightly bound and refined in expression, with restrained aromas of white and yellow florals and stonefruits, along with nuances of pineapple, unveiling waxy mineral, wet stone and nutty detail. The aromatics grow in presence and depth with aeration. Bone-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the intensity and depth of fruit confers an elegance of proportion. Tightly concentrated flavours of white and yellow stonefruits are subtly lifted by floral and honeysuckle notes and mineral suggestions. The palate features a fine-grained phenolic core of fruit extract, enlivened and driven by bright, lacy acidity. Some alcoholic power underlines the fruit which carries to a richly detailed, long lingering, dry finish. This is a fresh, elegantly concentrated, powerfully driven dry Chenin Blanc with stonefruit and mineral flavours. Serve with seafood and white meat dishes over the next 10 years. Indigenous yeast fermented aged 9 months in seasoned 600 L demi-muids on lees, without batonnage or MLF. 19.0/20.

$69.99

2013 Babich Irongate Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay

Elsewhere this retails at $37. Babich's flagship Chardonnay. A stylish wine, Irongate was traditionally markedly leaner and tighter than other top Hawke’s Bay Chardonnays, while performing well in the cellar, but the latest releases have more drink-young appeal. It is based on hand-picked fruit from the shingly Irongate Vineyard in Gimblett Road, fully barrel-fermented (about 20 per cent new), and lees-matured for up to 10 months. Malolactic fermentation was rare up to the 2002, but has since exerted a growing influence." M.Cooper
