2013 Man O War Valhalla Waiheke Island Chardonnay

Rated as Waiheke’s finest vintage to date, the 2013 vintage delivered fruit of exceptional quality. Hand harvested and either gently foot stomped before pressing or whole bunch pressed directly to barrel for an un-inoculated ‘wild’ fermentation in 500 litre acacia or oak puncheons. "The 2013 Valhalla Chardonnay is typical of their style; bold flavours and aromas with complex savoury notes introducing tropical fruits, stone fruit, and hazelnut with toasty/smokey barrel characters. The palate is all about elegance and discreet power with a rich texture framed by vibrant acidity, oak and bold fruit."

2012 Stanley Estates Awatere Valley Pinot Gris

Made by the ex winemaker at Cloudy Bay. Gold Medal at the Air NZ Wine Awards. "Weighty wine with a smooth texture and a drying finish thanks to acidity rather than tannins. Attractive Naschi pear and herb flavours with plenty of nutty lees characters." ( 20% Barrel fermented with wild yeasts to give palate weight and complexity. ) Set up seven years ago this is their third release under their own label. 2013 Dampt Chablis

"Sébastian Dampt is the son of Daniel and the wines are made in the same facilities and with the same philosophies. As the scores and comments suggest, these are terrific wines and at the prices the Dampt wines generally sell for, they are screaming bargains. "Dampt make four excellent Premier Cru Chablis as well as a Petit Chablis but it’s hard to beat their basic Chablis label for sheer good value. Made from densely planted (5,500 vines/ha) 30 year-old vines. Grapes are fermented in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation and given plenty of lees contact. The result is a classic Chablis style with crunchy green apple and chalky mineral flavours. Best of all the wine is sealed with a screwcap for consistency and added longevity." An absolute steal now at the new low price of $14.99. Made by Nick Nobilo at Vinoptima this was $29. One of those big, textural Alsace styles of Pinot Gris that people continually ask us for but we hardly ever find in this price category. "Plump, peachy wine with a lovely creamy texture. Characterful wine with lovely intense tree fruit flavours and a lingering finish. Classy Pinot Gris in a truly Alsace-like style." Bob Campbell. Way undervalued for the quality this delivers.

2013 Jadot Saint Veran

100% chardonnay from the Maconnais region in Burgundy. St Veran is right next to Pouilly Fuisse and shares a similar chalk/clay soil profile. This is a seriously good white burgundy with floral notes of lime-blossom and white peach fruit that give way, over time, to notes of hazelnuts, offset by delicate touches of honey, vanilla and flint. Simply stunning. Jadot keep everything very pure here and do not muck around by swamping it in oak. Just gorgeous!

For the lovers of fine white Burgundy ( chardonnay ) . Les Narvaux is a vineyard area adjacent to Genevrières and Poruzots, and has very shallow soils and a southerly aspect, which promote both low yields and excellent ripening. This wine exhibits the typical Meursault roundness and approachability, with a pleasing crispness and nutty accents.
