2013 Boneline Waipara Barebone Chardonnay

Given that Waipara has a similar climate to Chablis and they also have limestone subsoils, Boneline feel this is a valid approach to a crisp, structured Chardonnay style. Made by Jeff Sinnott ( ex Amisfield and Ostler Winemaker ) from vines first planted in 1989. This is a deliberate attempt at a pure Chardonnay made to emphasise subtle secondary varietal character, structure and texture. “…a pleasant, pure and perky unoaked Chardonnay. Expect peach and honeydew melon aromas with some creamy, lees-derived character. Fresh and zesty with an interesting chalky texture on the finish.” 17/20 Rebecca Gibb

2013 Boneline Waipara Hell Block Riesling

10% and medium- dry in style. “Loving the new 2013 The Boneline Hellblock Riesling which comes from vines grown on a river terrace that is, apparently, as hot as hell during summer, which must be why it tastes so intense on the old Riesling citrusy flavour front. That delish’ bite of crisp acidity is what really drives my tastebuds wild, and creates a nervy core of interest in each sip of this lovely new wine from North Canterbury. The wine is made from grapes grown on 25 year old vines grown downstream from the White Gorge, which is carved out of terraces on the south bank of the Waipara River. Its makers, Tutton, Sienko and Hill, all say that they picked the grapes prior to sunburn to avoid phenolic development; for non-wine heads, that is another way of saying that they have avoided over ripeness, which can (in Riesling) lead to some strong aromas that can polarise people just a tad. This wine is driven by an intense lemon taste and really is a very fresh, youthful, yet-to-develop style that has great flavour intensity and a long life ahead” The Boneline is a new brand from some well experienced North Canterbury winemakers on Ram Paddock Road, North Canterbury, New Zealand. Another wine that shows what this region is capable of: in a word: greatness." Joelle Thomson

2014 Partners Margaret River Chardonnay

100% Chardonnay from Margaret River. One of those brillant Western Australian pure Chardonnays that we search for. "Brilliant pale straw. Lifted aromas of stone fruit, citrus blossom and raw cashew. The palate is focused and fleshy featuring stone fruits and citrus with subtle toasty oak flavours. There is flinty, nutty undertones supported by firm, fresh acidity."

2013 Mission Estate Hutchet Chardonnay

The year was 1983, it was the year that Kiwi won the Melbourne Cup, Prince William made his first visit to New Zealand, Lorraine Downes was crowned Miss Universe, Lance Cairns hit his six sixes at the MCG and Microsoft first launched Word. It was also the year that Mission Estate winemaker, Paul Mooney, made New Zealand’s first handpicked, whole bunch pressed and barrel fermented Chardonnay. These traditional French techniques have since gone on to become industry best practice for producing premium New Zealand Chardonnay. To mark its 30th consecutive vintage of producing barrel fermented Chardonnay, Mission Estate are set to release a limited edition Chardonnay under its prestigious Huchet label. The wine has been painstakingly crafted from the sublime 2013 vintage and is sure to be keenly sought out by Chardonnay connoisseurs from around the world. Paul Mooney is now one of New Zealand’s most experienced and respected winemakers and remains at Mission Estate, where he now presides over a much larger winemaking operation. Despite the obvious advancements in technology since the early eighties, he still prefers the traditional approach for Chardonnay. Paul says: “We rely heavily on hand harvesting and whole bunch pressing for our barrel fermented Chardonnays. We believe these traditional French techniques produce wines that over deliver in all the key sensory attributes.” Every bottle of Mission’s limited edition 30th anniversary Huchet Chardonnay will be individually numbered and boxed.

2012 Tahbilk Victoria Viognier

End of line clearance- normally $24. Tahbilk is one of Australia’s oldest wineries, owned by the Purbrick family inl Victorian wine region of Nagambie Lakes. “Ripe stone fruits with a dash of citrus are a seductive start to this little ripper. Lively flavours in the mouth with terrific acidity with crisp and moreish textures confirm this is a very smart wine. It’s ripe fruited yet very fresh and satisfying.” – Tony Love – Adelaide Advertiser

2014 Boneline Waipara Sauvignon Blanc

One of the best 2014 sauvignon's we have tried. Grown alongside the Riesling vines in Hellblock, sharing the searing summer heat and cold Autumn nights. This is a very lively block with spring fed gravels allowing vine roots to express their unfettered character. Handpicked, destemmed, and given extended skin contact. Clear juice cool fermented in tank with selected yeast strains in order to extract its riotous nature. Riper fruit left on lees for the Winter which adds nuances of yoghurt, linseed and fruit. Faithful punchy passionfruit, nettle, gooseberry and boxtree sit on top of richer tropical & citrus fruit notes. Palate dry and balanced — classic savvy. Mid palate has lovely surge of flavour. Profound depth that can only come from old vines on a great site.

2014 Boneline Waipara Sharkstone Charonnay

We love the texture of this old vine chardonnay- it has real power and presence. Drawn from the oldest multi-clone, small berry vines on their property. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed with full solids to 20% new French oak, where it was fermented, matured, put through partial malolactic and rested on lees for 12 months. Citrus laced fruits, subtle toasty oak, lemon oil and freshly toasted baguette. Classic flinty notes lifted by yeast lees derived complexity. Beguiling balance between lemony freshness, biscuit yeast, and deeper stone fruit flavours.

2013 Astrolabe Sleepers Vineyard Albarino

2014 Villa Maria Cellar Selection Chardonnay

Normal RRP $19. Boy does this overdeliver and 5 Stars in the Cuisine Chardonnay Tasting proves it. They write "Once again, you have to hand it to the Villa Maria Cellar Selection label. This chardonnay delivers a lot of complexity for the price. A silvery, flinty spine subtly powers the wine, dispensing citrus and meal notes across the palate. Great finesse, great length, great with gurnard and a dash of lemon."

2013 Domaine Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

There is only one thing wrong with this superlative blend of 40% Grenache Blanc, 40% Clairette and 20% Roussanne, namely the paucity of its availability. Richly textured, with indulgent peachy, toasty notes, the wine has a distinctive brioche aniseed finish and a fertile seam of acidity in counterpoint to its innate generosity.
