Drinkability meets pure class in this wonderful Penfolds offering. A text book on Cabernet written in black fruit and minty mocha delight, this wine has depth and structure but also the generosity to crack open any time you just feel like something gob-smackingly delicious. This beautiful curve of flavours is made possible by blending sources from across South Australia, as well as various sizes and ages of quality French and American oak. Whatever they're are doing, it's working.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Its Origins

Penfolds is undoubtedly one of the top wine companies in the world in terms of quality, product range and consistency. Peter Gago has now taken over winemaking responsibilities and a string of good vintages over the past five years has helped Penfolds stay at the top of the Australian wine boom.

What The Critics Say

16.5/20 Jancis Robinson MW

"Wrattonbully, McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Clare Valley. Acidity 6.3.g/l, pH 3.62. 13 months in French oak (24% new and moving towards all puncheons) and American oak hogsheads (10% new, 27% one year old, 39% two year old.) They are moving towards all puncheons for this wine. 100% Cabernet. A real varietal expression! Extremely dark purple. Very Cabernet with a muscular structure." Drink 2017 - 2028

96/100 James Halliday

A multi-regional blend first made in ’90, the Limestone Coast regions having an important role, the oak likewise a mix of new and used French and American. It’s first and foremost Penfolds, second cabernet sauvignon, and there’s no point in moaning about the price, which is made to seem frugal by that of Bin 707. In the scheme of things, it will travel easily thanks to the balance of fruit, oak and tannins. 14.5% alc.
