2017 Clos St Antonin Cotes du Rhone

91 Points Parker's Wine Advocate
In stock
A lush and smooth Cotes du Rhone, in a new label from the famous Sabon family. Thanks to hot, sunny days and cool nights 2016 saw rich fruit balanced by fresh acidity and fine tannins. So this beautifully bright and fruity wine offers the gently dark berry fruit of ripe Grenache among charming expressions of Mediterranean herbs and spice. Soft, succulent and satisfying: for $20 something, it's best to keep this stocked up!

Its Origins

This is a new project of Isabelle Sabon and her father, Aimé, of Domaine de la Janasse, who purchased this 15 hectare domain in 2014. The estate, itself, is located in Jonquières just north of Courthézon. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape will be made from fruit drawn from two hectares of vines in the prime La Crau and Font du Loup vineyards, which were part of Domaine de la Janasse. Those holdings are being folded into Clos St.-Antonin in anticipation of the usual French succession issues that will ensue when Isabelle and her brother, Christophe, take over Domaine de la Janasse from their father.

What The Critics Say

89-91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Jo Czerwinski (2016 vintage)

"The final blend of the 2016 Cotes du Rhone, tasted prior to bottling, is 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. Ripe, mouthwatering and fresh, this medium to full-bodied wine delivers juicy plum and black cherry fruit underscored by softly dusty tannins. It should drink well for up to 5 years."
