2016 Cornacchia Montepulciano Vigna De Coste

92 Points John Caro
In stock
A fine and food-friendly Montepulciano D'Abruzzo Riserva level from an organic single vineyard. Classic dark plum and chocolate characters remain elegant and focused, with a fine structure and long finish that aches for food. The Vigna Le Coste is an organic vineyard relatively elevated (240m) and 15 km inland, where the south-facing vines of 30-40 years age enjoy good sun but also cooling sea breezes. Proper European wine for rich dinners over the coming months and years.
$35.99 in mixed 6+ or $39.99 per bottle

Its Origins

In the province of Teramo the estate dominates the fertile valley of the Vibrata, lying at 240 meters above sea level. The soil is calcareous and stony which is excellent for drainage. The moderating breezes from the sea which is 15 km from the estate allow for perfect ripening. Baron Filippo Cornacchia stated growing Montepucliano vines at the end of the 19th Century and is considered the pioneer in the aging and bottling of Montepulciano in Abruzzo. Cornacchia currently has 32 hectares of vineyard.. The Le Coste vineyard has full southern exposure with its own special microclimate .Vines are 30 to 40 years old. Only grapes coming from this vineyard are used.

What The Critics Say

91 Vinous, Ian D'Agata (2015 vintage)
