Squawking Magpie Daisy Rose Brut Methode NV

94 Points Cameron Douglas MS

A sparkling Rose from boutique Hawkes Bay label, Squawking Magpie. With roundness of delicate fruit provided by Pinot Noir, this naturally fresh style has been nicely softened further by a full two years on yeast lees. Crisp but nuanced and gentle, these are classy bubbles for the price.

Its Origins

Squawking Magpie Owner and Director Gavin Yortt planted the main Woodland’s vineyard in 1995, with further holdings in 2002 extending the focus on Hawkes Bay classic grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and maintain a strong focus on cellaring wines and a quality-driven (rather than brand-driven) market strategy, which begins with rigorous vineyard management. Though not shouting from every shelf, on quality-for-value Squawking Magpie wines are often among the best Hawkes Bay has to offer.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"Made with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir aromas of red berries and red apple skin, wild flowers and peach tea. The lees autolysis layers through aromas of spice, whole-wheat bread and some brioche. Fresh, crisp and dry with a developing complexity. Strawberry and cherry, raspberry and flowers. Satin textured mousse adds to a lengthy finish. Ready to enjoy from today and through 2025+."
