2015 Elvio Cogno Barolo Bricco Pernice
After working with Marcarini in La Morra, Elvio Cogno returned to his family village in 1990 to rebuild an historical farm into the home of one of Piedmont's more important Barolo producers. Now daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore are the force behind the rising fortunes of the house, producing strictly classic wines with modern cleanliness and technique, low yields and sustainable, closely managed vineyards.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
"The 2015 Barolo Bricco Pernice is an exotic, beguiling wine. Blood orange, mint, sweet red cherry, star anise and a range of spice notes give the Bricco Pernice striking aromatic and flavor complexity. Medium in body, refined and super-expressive, the 2015 has so much to offer. Best of all, it will drink well with just a few years in bottle. It is such an effortless, gracious wine. Very polished, nuanced and elegant, this silky Barolo has a ton of structure but is also impeccable in its balance."
17.5/20 JancisRobinson.com, Walter Speller
"Novello. Lustrous mid ruby. Lots of depth and richness, yet at the same time sleek. Sweet, crushed red fruit run through by a spicy vein. Gorgeous succulent fruit, great focus and length and full spread on the finish with bags of ripe, grainy tannins. Endlessly long and succulent. (WS)." Drink 2020 - 2032
97/100 Wine Enthusiast (2013 vintage)
"Forest floor, dried rose petal, new leather, star anise and menthol aromas align with a potpourri of dark cooking spice. The full-bodied yet linear palate delivers juicy Marasca cherry, crushed strawberry, licorice and aromatic herb set against taut, elegant tannins. Vibrant acidity lends balance, tension and an ageworthy structure."
