The 'essence of Sangiovese', this top wine from Poderi Boscarelli offers huge purity, length and aromatics. Various Sangiovese plantings in the Vigna del Nocio vineyard are carefully handharvested - at different times on sandy and clay soils - then hand-transported to the winery for a gentle, slow, indigenous yeast fermentation in two-thirds full oak vats. After up to 24 months oak maturation, a careful blend is conducted to balance and showcase the 'essence' of each year. Unique.

Its Origins

Poderi Boscarelli is located in northeast Montepulciano facing the Chiana Valley, in the commune of Cervognano. At 300 m above sea level, their vineyards have the right combination of temperatures and natural air circulation to provide an ideal microclimate. Rich alluvial soil and sand provide good drainage and result in wines with elegant character and minerality. The estate was founded by Egidio Corradi, a member of the old Poliziana family. longtime wine producers in the Montepulciano region. After spending much of his life working as an international broker in Genoa and Milan, he returned to his home region and purchased two semi-abandoned small farms in Cervognano, a corner of old Etruscan Tuscany near Montepulciano. His daughter Paola and her husband Ippolito De Ferrari started Poderi Boscarelli in the ’60s on this estate, planting their first specialized vineyards and building the first winery by renovating the old stables. The estate has now passed to the third generation of the family, sons Luca and Nicolò De Ferrari.

Ample, creamy and generous, with lovely overall freshness and lift, the 2012 is an exceptionally polished wine. There is no shortage of intensity, but the 2012 is less heavy and powerful than some previous editions. Because of its exceptional balance, the 2012 will drink well pretty much upon release, but it also has the stuffing to develop nicely in bottle over the coming years. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this super-expressive and inviting Vino Nobile from Boscarelli."

Finishes smooth, clean and very long, with lingering, vibrant red cherry, mineral and floral nuances. One of the best Nocio vintages in years, a real essence of sangiovese. Nocio is a single-vineyard Nobile that has long been the quality standard bearer in Montepulciano (it was previously called Nocio dei Boscarelli)."
