First planted in 1993, at the eastern end of Waiheke Island, Man O’ War consists of 150 acres of vines planted in 76 individual hillside blocks, each with a distinct soil profile and microclimate.
Every single block bears the footprints, and sometimes the names, of those who transformed Man O’ War’s rugged hillsides into a spectacular patchwork of vines. Helmed by winemaker Duncan McTavish and vineyard manager Matt Allen, the wines represent a legacy of preservation and great respect for the land and its history.
What The Critics Say
96/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2015 vintage)
"This is staggeringly rich and complex on the nose showing dark fruit, chocolate tart, black olive, cedar and truffle characters, followed by a concentrated palate that is both striking and refined. The wine offers compelling fruit power and purity, brilliantly supported by silky texture and opulent mouthfeel. $55.00. www.manowarvineyards.co.nz. May 2018." Drink 2018 - 2025
95/100 Bob Campbell MW (2015 vintage)
"Elegant, powerful and quite dense syrah, Bright berry, plum, red rose, black pepper and spicy oak are the dominant flavours in this complex and appealing wine. Sweet fruit flavours are restrained by ripe tannins. Accessible now but with obvious potential 16/10/2017." Drink 2017 - 2023
