Its Origins

The words beach house say it all. This flat roofed, terracotta and blue adobe style cellar door building is not far from the sea at Te Awanga, set on a sun drenched piece of land humming with cicadas. Beach House are a highly dedicated tiny producer who each year puts out extremely good value Gimblett Gravel reds. Situated on the free draining Gimblett Gravels of Mere Rd, surrounded by such stellar vineyards as Mills Reef and Stonecroft, the vineyard is set up with close spaced vines and yields are kept to a minimum.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"It is delightfully expressed on the nose showing peach, rockmelon, fig and vanilla characters with subtle toasted nut notes. The palate is succulent and flavoursome, displaying vibrant fruit intensity backed by creamy texture and well-integrated acidity, leading to a lingering silky finish. A stylish chardonnay showing lovely harmony and balanced with elegant oak infusion."

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 vintage)

"The multi-faceted 2016 vintage (5*) was estate-grown in The Levels Vineyard, at Te Awanga, hand-picked, and fermented and matured for 10 months in French oak casks of varying sizes (33 per cent new). Bright, light lemon/green, it has a fragrant bouquet, showing indigenous yeast notes. A classic regional style, it is mouthfilling and lively, with concentrated, ripe stone-fruit-like flavours, enriched with oak, excellent complexity and obvious potential; open 2019 onwards. Fine value."
