Its Origins

Amisfield was established in 1988, a Central Otago based specialist producer of pinot noir and aromatic white wines created from fruit grown on the estate vineyard beneath the Pisa Mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. This privately owned company's 200ha property, once a prominent high country merino station, is one of the largest single vineyard estates in the Central Otago region. Over 80ha is currently planted with the majority of the vines being over ten years old. A state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard and produces 20,000 -30,000 cases of wine annually. Pinot Noir accounts for over 60% of the production with the balance made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling. This wine is made from 9 clones of pinot noir and grown on several different soil types, adding complexity to the wine.

What The Critics Say

95/100 and "Outstanding" Cameron Douglas MS

"This is a fabulous wine, with a complex bouquet without missing the all important signature of variety, aromas of wild flowers and ripe red berry fruits, layers of wood spice and stoney mineral complexities. There’s a fine layer of mystery and intrigue that siganls further exporation. On the palate flavours of dried herbs and barrel spices, dark cherry and wild plums, there’s a savoury wild thyme component and earthy core that builds on the complexity and youthfull charms. Firm tannins and acidity create the back bone and need time to integrate more. Lengthy, detailed and well made, a wine for drinkers of fine Pinot Noir and collectors. Best drinking from 2025 through 2035+." Drink 2025 - 2035+

95/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Intense, fragrant, vibrant wine with cassis, black cherry, dark chocolate, wood smoke, violet and spicy oak flavours supported by firm, ripe tannins that suggest good ageing potential. The wine opened up as it sat in the glass and would benefit from decanting. 18 JUN 2023." Drink 2023 - 2035
