A Gold medal and 96/100 at the Decanter World Wine Awards. One of the very top results for a NZ Sauvignon. Not suprising as its Astrolabe’s baby brother Sauvignon which is growing up and getting a large export following. (They also sell this to other wineries, who sell it as their top labels for $20+). Zesty and vibrant this wine has Astrolabe's expert quality just in a more affordable, more accessible and ridiculously easy-to-drink style. Delicious Sav for a no-brainer price - grab this!

Its Origins

Winemaker Simon Waghorn has this to say about Durvillea: “All along Marlborough’s coast, clinging to rocks at low tide is the seaweed Durvillea. We know it as bull kelp or rimurapa. As a young man at university I studied seaweed. Named for the captain of the Astrolabe, Durvillea seaweed is my quintessential emblem of our wild coast. The Durvillea grapes are grown in the Waihopai, Wairau and Awatere Valleys of Marlborough. The grapes are harvested at precisely the right moment and I preserve the purity and intensity of flavour in my winemaking. Durvillea is Astrolabe’s little sister label. This provides us with the opportunity to offer another range of classic Marlborough wines from our Astrolabe vineyards.”

What The Critics Say

90/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Light, soft and delicately fruity sauvignon blanc with tree fruit and tropical fruit flavours. Nice purity and a delicate texture. Offers great value at this price 5/12/2019." Drink 2019 - 2022

Winemaker notes

"Aroma/Bouquet Gooseberries, white and black currants, lime peel and grapefruit. Medium-bodied with lime, gooseberry and citrus flavours, minerally texture and a long crisp finish. Suggested Foods: Leafy summer salads, fresh oysters and seafood of all types. Pairs well with aromatic herbs like mint and coriander — a great match with dishes like Som Tam, pomelo salad or tamales with tomatillo salsa. Serve Chilled."
