2018 Pegasus Bay Sauvignon/Semillon

95 Points Cameron Douglas MS

A superb classic of Sauvignon-Semillon from Waipara. This rarer style is Bordeaux-influenced and food-orientated. Offering lovely texture and complexity, 30% Semillon is fuller bodied and introduces a citrus and waxy-mineral element that rounds out Sauvignon's brighter acid and aromatic. This really sings with seafood but will suit any white meat dinners. Delicious!
$31.99 in mixed 6+ or $35.99 per bottle

70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillion from 30 year old vines.

Its Origins

Located in arguably New Zealand's most exciting wine region of North Canterbury (more specifically, Waipara), albeit sparsely scattered with wine estates it is at the forefront of interesting and unique wines in NZ. This is due in part to a fabulous free-draining, well protected terroir. Pegasus Bay is run by the Donaldson family who were pioneers in the region and have been involved with local grape growing and winemaking since the 1970's. The whole family are involved in the process from grape to bottle, and a deep respect for the land, with a long term view towards vine and soil health typifies the Donaldson Family's approach to grape growing. Pegasus Bay is an accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture program and are firm believers of using natural methods to combat pests and diseases rather than the application of unnecessary pesticides and herbicides.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"Wonderfully intense bouquet with aromas of white fleshed stone fruits and citrus, grapefruit pith and apple peel. The bouquet also has a waxy white smoke and stone mineral layer. Silky textures on the palate are contrasted by acidity and a core of fruit flavours suggested by the nose. The pith and peel alongside grapefruit and apple flavours are strong adding length and intensity. Great finish, a fascinating wine, complex and delicious. Drink now and through 2025." Drink 2021 - 2025

93/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Rich, gutsy and quite complex blended white that's gently aromatic with melon, passionfruit, lime and struck flint and fireworks reductive character. A combination of firm acidity and fine tannins give the wine backbone and a drying finish. Best with food. Should age well. 13 APR 2020." Drink 2018 - 2024
