The Haag family has been in wine for just a little while - since 1605, to be precise - and over that time they have been instrumental in the development of Brauneberger, an area that has been recognised as one of the Mosel’s best since the sixth century. At the helm today is the youthful Oliver Haag, whose father Wilhelm (son of Fritz) became recognised as a Riesling world leader, awarded the deceptively simple title of Winegrower of the Year in 1994. Oliver himself has at his back a full oenological training as well as extensive experience with a number of leading Riesling producers. With results so superb they effectively define a modern classic style of Mosel Riesling, it seems clear that the Haag family’s future in wine may be as sure as it’s past.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Stephan Reinhardt (2017 vintage)
"The 2017 Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is reductive but noble and very fine on the perfectly ripe, slatey and typical Juffer Sonnenuhr nose. Salty-piquant and highly delicate on the palate, this is a gorgeously lush and sensual Sonnenuhr with all the finesse and elegance you would expect from this spectacular terroir. The 2017 has incredible finesse and elegance and is filigreed and almost weightless, but there is this seductive fruit on the finish that sucks you into the Venus mountain. This is a great wine, and it already drinks incredibly well."
