An aged Tawny Port with beautiful depth and subtle power. Made from wines both older and younger with an average age of 10 years, this very complete and complex Port has the richness, roundness and complexity of serious oak aging. But it also retains real freshness and drive through the palate, balancing the smooth sweetness. Very complete and oh-so-delicious, it will not overwhelm the palate but, instead, offers the inviting delicacy to lead you into its deeper layers. From the legendary Symington family stable, this is another exceptional Dow's Port.

Overview

Its Origins

Owned by the ubiquitous Port family of Symington (solely, since 1961) through many years of growth and mergers. The great house of Dow’s was established in 1798 by Bruno da Silva, a Portuguese wine merchant from Oporto based in London. This savvy businessman was one of the few to ship during the Napoleonic Wars, with his Port ships equipped with guns. The name DOW comes from the merge of Silva’s company with that of another famous Port company, Dow & Co. Throughout the 20th Century and into the 21st, the Symington family has built on the legacy of the preceding Silva and Dow families. The heart of the wines of Dow’s are the two quintas (vineyards) of Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora. These are some of the Douro’s finest vineyards, and allow perfect exposure, drainage and growing conditions year round.

What The Critics Say

Wine Enthusiast

"Balanced and dry, this is fruity with just the right amount of wood-aging flavors. It has red fruits, a shot of spirit that still keeps in balance, and tight, dry acidity at the end."

Winemaker notes

"Amber golden in colour, soft and rich on the palate with a fine and mellow fruit flavour blending in with the almond overtones of prolonged cask aging. A very fine Port to be savoured in a reasonable sized glass so that the aromas and colour can be appreciated. Serve slightly chilled in warm weather."
