Serious Waiheke Syrah. As always the Dreadnough offers a 'velvet glove' power, with layered flavours that flow with real elegance and breadth. Dark red and black fruits are complimented by game and earthy spice in this rich yet refined example of age-worthy, food-freindly Kiwi Syrah. Drink or cellar.

Its Origins

First planted in 1993, at the eastern end of Waiheke Island, Man O’ War consists of 150 acres of vines planted in 76 individual hillside blocks, each with a distinct soil profile and microclimate.
Every single block bears the footprints, and sometimes the names, of those who transformed Man O’ War’s rugged hillsides into a spectacular patchwork of vines. Helmed by winemaker Duncan McTavish and vineyard manager Matt Allen, the wines represent a legacy of preservation and great respect for the land and its history.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Fermented using wild yeasts and some whole clusters. Deep, dense syrah that's jam-packed with many flavours including plum, dark berry, black pepper, a suggestion of violet, liquorice, leather and tar characters. A powerful, complex wine with a promising future. 05 MAR 2020." Drink 2020 - 2027

95/100 Cameron Douglas Master Sommelier

"Immediately recognisable and seductive bouquet with aromas of black berry and raspberry, dark plums and black pepper. The aromas expand to include clove and cocoa, toasty wood and dark dry rocky soil impressions. On the palate - dry, weighty, firm textures from tannins, warming alcohol and an abundance of acidity. Fruit flavours reflect the palate led by dark raspberry and black cherry. Persistent and engaging throughout the palate, well made and ready. Best drinking from today and through 2024."
