A refined Martinborough Pinot Noir made by Natural Wine methods. From two blocks tended by the winemaker himself, the Transit was not over-ripened but allowed to remain fine, linear and ethereal in nature. Subtle harmony and natural balance make this highly enjoyable with food now, or suitable for judicious aging. (Minimal added sulphites.)

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

Raymond Chan: Lance Redgwell is one of the new generation of young winemakers breathing new life into the Martinborough vignoble. Open-minded, yet respecting of what has already has been established, he aims to extend the work of the pioneers, heading into a brave new world with the incorporation of contemporary ideas and innovations. He has embraced biodynamic viticulture and winemaking methods as natural as possible. The base of Cambridge Road is the 1.8 ha of vines established in 1986, approx. three quarters Pinot Noir and one-quarter Syrah, which he produces varietal bottlings as well as the ‘Dovetail’ field blend. ‘Animus’ is "really a more affordable look into my work” and includes material not included in the top tier ‘Cambridge Road’ wines. Fruit from other sites has been sourced for the ‘Animus’ wines, as well as the even more accessible ‘La Luna’ label. The wines are made in Lance’s winery on site, commissioned in 2010.

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes

"Enjoy the fresh black fruit and floral/botanic dimensions in this wine over the next 6-8 years, well suited to delicate culinary dishes and warmer climates or seasons. This is the finest and only pure Pinot Noir made by Cambridge Road in the vintage 2012. Beautiful organic fruit selected from the two vineyards I've been farming for some years now, picked on average a touch earlier than usual lending a fresh vibrant line to the wine, botanic threads and modest alcohol. There's a new level of purity evident here with no new oak in the blend whatsoever, in addition sulphite use has been kept below the 10ppm threshold for declaration."
