Nisia is a deliciously plump yet dry and minerally food white. What is typically Spanish is the tiny price you pay for the product of such old vines, organically managed, which drinks with such finesse, nuance and satisfaction. Serious, stylish and a rare variety in NZ: superb value!

Its Origins

Jorge Ordonez is the owner of a dynamic group of well branded labels and wineries focussed on bringing Spain's incredible value proposition to the world market. From key holdings across many of Spain’s regions - some less famous, but all wildly undervalued for the available climate, gnarly old vines and terroir - the Ordonez-group produce large volumes of inexpensive labels at quality levels that are testing experts’ vocabulary for superlatives. They do this by employing the best winemakers and modern technologies but, more importantly, by staying on song: not getting sidetracked by international varieties but on the contrary respecting and tapping Spain’s deepest resource - local tradition and local varietals - allowing the group to convert forgotten local vineyards into into stunning global assets overnight. As the world wakes up to Spain’s distinctive regional offerings, the chances are Jorge Ordonez and friends have already made them your favourite drop.

What The Critics Say

91/100 Vinous, Josh Raynolds (2015 vintage)

"(60 percent raised in large oak casks, 25 percent of them new, and 40 percent raised in stainless steel tanks, all of it on its lees) Green-tinged yellow. Meyer lemon, melon, jasmine and a vanilla nuance on the highly perfumed nose. Pliant and broad in the mouth, offering juicy pit fruit and floral flavors that tighten up on the back half. The floral quality repeats on a long, penetrating finish that's sharpened by a spine of juicy acidity."

Parker's Wine Advocate, Robert Parker (2015 vintage)

"The 2015 Nisia is from poor, sandy soils of Rueda. This small, 50-acre vineyard has produced a crisp, dry 100% Verdejo that is aged eight months sur lie in 500- to 600-liter demi-muids and 40% in stainless steel. Light straw in color with notes of poached pear, a honeyed citrus and marmalade note and a medium body. This crisp, fresh, refreshing, surprisingly intense dry white should drink well for another year."
