Its Origins
Established in 1985 by Cape Mentelle, Cloudy Bay Vineyards is situated in the Wairau Valley in Marlborough at the northern end of New Zealand’s South Island. This unique and cool wine region enjoys a maritime climate with the longest hours of sunshine of any place in New Zealand. Cloudy Bay has estate vineyards located at prime sites within the Wairau Valley, and long-term supply agreements with five Wairau Valley growers. The main varieties grown are sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, and pinot noir with lesser quantities of gewurztraminer, Riesling, and pinot gris.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Bob Campbell MW
"A sophisticated trailblazing oak-matured sauvignon blanc, which retains tangy varietal character while adding subtle toast and ginger flavours from barrel maturation. A wonderful texture and a crisp, dry and lingering finish. 15 OCT 2021." Drink 2021 - 2027
95/100 and Outstanding Cameron Douglas MS
"Complex and compelling, pure fruit scented bouquet. Aromas of golden apple and lemon, lees and barrel ferment complexity, floral, mineral, fruity and with a soft dried herb and white smoke. Delicious on the palate with flavours that mirror the bouquet, a satin appeal is contrasted by acidity and lees with spice and mineral highlights. Delicious and ready to drink from today and through 2026+." Drink 2021 - 2026+
