2023 Amisfield Otago Dry Riesling

93 Points Richard Caro
In stock
Hand-harvested and delicately made, this dry Riesling was fermented naturally and given some aging on yeast lees to add the texture and roundness to make it delicious young, if you just can't wait. Otherwise every bit as fresh, vibrant and minerally as you could hope for this great example of dry Central Otago Riesling.

Its Origins

Amisfield was established in 1988, a Central Otago based specialist producer of pinot noir and aromatic white wines created from fruit grown on the estate vineyard beneath the Pisa Mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. This privately owned company's 200ha property, once a prominent high country merino station, is one of the largest single vineyard estates in the Central Otago region. Over 80ha is currently planted with the majority of the vines being over ten years old. A state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard and produces 20,000 -30,000 cases of wine annually. Pinot Noir accounts for over 60% of the production with the balance made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2021 Vintage)

"There’s a wonderful sense of place with the aromas of mineral and sweet air then a light floral highlight. Scents of ripe apple and lemon with a limeflower and gentle white spice lift. Lovely intensity as the wine touches the palate, the acidity makes its point quickly with the fruit flavours offering contrast and intensity. Young, vibrant, fresh and delicious. Best drinking from 2023 through 2030+."

94/100 Bob Campbell MW (2021 vintage)

"Dry, but not bone-dry thanks to a subliminal hint of sweetness. Intense wine with kaffir lime, oyster shell and white flower flavours. Deliciously drinkable now but with good cellaring potential."

94/100 Bob Campbell MW (2020 vintage)

"Lifted floral, wild flower aromas with punchy citrus-lime offering a first impression on the palate before finishing with a saline oyster-shell character. An intense and appealing wine supported by lively acidity. 22 MAR 2022." Drink 2022 - 2030
