A delicious blend of Pinot Gris and Viognier. Just off dry, it is not too sweet but all about texture and aromatic nuance. Co-fermented aromatic blends like this are rarely seen in NZ, but the few on the market are popular with those in the know -- and quick to sell out.

Pinot Gris, Viognier

Its Origins

Reydan and Roger Weiss first fell in love with the beauty of Te Awanga when visiting from Germany in 2001. Together they envisaged owning a state-of-the-art winery, merging the traditional values of wine making with an innovative approach and contemporary style to produce exceptional wines to savour and enjoy. With the majestic elephant as their namesake and nestled against a backdrop of rolling hillsides, Elephant Hill spans over 25 hectares of vineyards producing classical, aromatics whites and world-class reds, helmed by winemaker Steve Skinner.

What The Critics Say

91/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"A delightful blend of pinot gris, viognier and gewurztraminer, the elegantly fragrant bouquet shows white flesh nectarine, green rockmelon, feijoa and lemon peel characters. The palate is succulent and beautifully rounded, delivering pristine fruit flavours and silky texture, well supported by refreshing acidity. Wonderfully harmonious and offers excellent drinking. At its best: now to 2021. $26.00. www.elephanthill.co.nz. Sept 2018." Drink 2018 - 2021

17.5+/20 Raymond Chan

"The nose is fresh and firm with a taut core of white and yellow stonefruits along with subtle notes of exotic florals and apricots, layered with complexing mineral and nutty detail and a suggestion of salinity. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a fine heart of white stonefruits and florals harmoniously integrated with delicate, complexing mineral and nutty lees elements. The mouthfeel is crisp with refined acidity and the wine flows along a refined, textured line leading to a zesty, moderately sustained finish. Serve as an aperitif, and with seafood and poultry dishes over the next 3+ years. A blend of 58% Pinot Gris, 38% Viognier and 4% Gewurztraminer from the Te Awanga vineyard, fermented in stainless-steel with 5% in barrel to 13.0% alc. and 2.5 g/L RS, the wine aged 8 months on lees. 17.5+/20 Aug 2018 RRP $26.00."
