The vineyard is nestled under Mount Tapuae-O-Uenuku (Maori" "Footprint of the Rainbow"). At the top of the Southern Alps, it strongly influences the climate, with its rain shadow bestowing low rainfall and low humidity upon the Awatere Valley. Along with sunny days and cool nights this creates perfect conditions for slow steady ripening and flavour development. Awatere grapes have a distinctive fruity yet steely and herbaceous flavour quite different to those produced elsewhere in Marlborough.
What The Critics Say
18+/20 Raymond Chan
"Bright, light straw-yellow colour, paler on the rim. The nose is fresh and harmoniously presented with finely concentrated aromas of exotic florals, white and yellow stonefruits and nuances of tropical fruits, unfolding subtle notes of rose-petals and lifted fermentation esters. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is youthful and refreshing with fragrant and gently succulent flavours of white stonefruits, exotic florals and tropical fruits, along with hints of honeysuckle and rose-petals. This is elegantly concentrated and the mouthfeel is lively with lacy acidity. The wine follows a fine-textured, subtle phenolic line leading to a lingering aromatic, exotic finish. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. Clones M2 and ENTAV 457, from vines planted in 2009, indigenous yeast fermented in tank with 16% in seasoned oak to 13.8% alc. and 2.9 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 months on lees with no batonnage in barrel. 18.0+/20 Dec 2016 RRP $22.95."
