Elegant and graceful, this Bordeaux-styled red shows Portugal's serious potential. Ripe, concentrated fruit from old vines has been put through intense berry and barrel selection, giving such finesse that the wine is supple and gorgeous now but will also reward cellaring. This is the pet project of the Symington Port family and Bordeaux legend Bruno Prats: the pedigree is high and access to top vineyards is the deciding factor.

Its Origins

The brand showing the P + S logo is a collaboration between the Symington Port house and Bruno Prats, the former owner of Chateau Cos d’Estournel in Bordeaux. Symington began when Andrew James Symington established himself in Porto in 1882. His subsequent acquisition of three important Port houses Warres, Dows, and Grahams became a legacy passing to his three sons, while many further acquisitions accrued a family portfolio of top quality estates whose practices and reputations have endured until the present day. This has included forward thinking and innovation too, as exampled by the collaboration with Bruno Prats. After Cos d’Estournel was sold, Prats embarked on collaborations in Chile and South Africa before being approached by his friends the Symingtons. Launched by its first wine Chryseia, the concept of Prats and Symington was to create a new cosmopolitan genre by applying Bordeaux production standards and techniques to the best red varieties and vineyards of Portugal’s Douro. Taking Portuguese wine to slightly new territory, the reception of the Chryseia and their other offerings have helped to alter the international perspective on premium, age-worthy Portuguese reds.

What The Critics Say

92/100 Wine Enthusiast

"From Quinta de Roriz, a vineyard high above the Douro, this is the second wine of Chryseia. It is structured but, as with all second wines, it is likely to be ready way before its elder sibling. The fruit is already finely in place giving ripe black flavors, fine integrated tannins and final acidity."

Parker's Wine Advocate, Mark Squires

"The 2016 Post Scriptum de Chryseia is a 68/32 blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca aged for 12 months in French oak. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. This is an elegant, mid-level red with a laid-back feel, but it has fine fruit and supporting acidity, making it a great house pour and food wine. I don't know that it is as exuberant as the 2015, but they are pretty close. It can be drunk now, but it may be better this time next year." Drink 2018 - 2027
