Its Origins

Bruno Rocca’s parents bought the estate's current property in the 1950‘s when they moved to Rabaja from Barbaresco. Bruno took over the estate when his father died in 1978. As a consummate modernist, Bruno uses modern technology to produce wines with tremendous intensity of fruit balanced by the characteristic Piemontese structure and a judicious use of oak. His wines look, smell and taste like real Nebbiolo and unlike an increasing number of other Piemonte producers, he never feels the need to add a certain extra something to deepen the colour or round out the palate. Bruno started bottling in 1978 and since then has risen to the top of the quality tree in this area, producing a Barbaresco and the single vineyard Rabaja Barbaresco. His daughter, Luisa now works with him at the estate as the marketing manager.

What The Critics Say

94+/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner

"The Bruno Rocca 2016 Barbaresco is a gorgeous wine that reveals impeccable balance, ongoing intensity and elegance, which accompany the wine from the start and continue straight through its long finish. The mouthfeel is buoyant and bright, yet there is a solid base of firm fruit and tannic backbone on the close. This is a buttoned-up and firmly etched expression of Nebbiolo from one of the most talented producers in Barbaresco. Great job, Bruno. He knocked out 15,426 of these beauties." Drink 2021 - 2038

17/20 JancisRobinson.com, Richard Hemming

"Neive. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Sweetly concentrated, slightly jammy cherry fruit on the nose and with hints of chalk. Supple, ripe and with an elegant medium-weight palate and plenty of vibrant acidity. Bags of chewy tannins and juicy fruit that need more age to settle. (WS)." Drink 2022 - 2030

Vinous, Antonio Galloni

"The 2016 Barbaresco is laced with crushed raspberry, orange peel, cinnamon and rose petal overtones. Silky on the palate, this gracious, classy Barbaresco is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. The 2016 is a touch slender, but it is also impeccable in its overall balance. Vineyard sources are Marcorino, Fausoni and San Cristoforo." Drink 2018 - 2026
