2018 Sandalford Estate Reserve Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon

94 Points Sam Kim
In stock
With great depth and good bottle age, this serious Cabernet from Western Australia over-delivers. Drawing plenty of colour and flavour out of these 40 year old vines, this has nice richness wine but also that definition of flavour that comes with Sandalford's expertise and Western Australia's cooler climate. Serious stuff for the price.

Its Origins

The establishment of Sandalford Wines in 1840 coincided with both the first European settlement at the Colony of Perth and birth of Western Australia's world famous wine industry.

In 1970, the Company was one of three initial pioneers of the Margaret River wine region (275km south of Perth and today considered by many as one of the world's truly great premium wine growing appellations) when the first vines were planted at its 300 hectare vineyard located there.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"Stylish and complex, the wine shows cassis, toasted spice, cedar and dried herb aromas, followed by a concentrated palate offering terrific depth and weight. Robust and structured with fine-grained tannins, it's varietally true and seductively appealing. At its best: now to 2032. $32.00. NZ Distributor: Eurovintage. May 2023." Drink 2023 - 2032

92/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, Erin Larkin

"From a 40+yo vineyard in Wilyabrup, matured 13 months in French oak. A salted tomato character on the nose; a supple chew and bounce to the palate structure, the fruits speaking of the same salted tomato/red-fruit notes. Good length of flavour rounds this out, with flicks of clove and white pepper through the finish." Drink by 2030
