A profoundly stylish Bordeaux blend from the Tuscan coast. This area grabbed the world's attention with Sassacaia in the mid-eighties, and since then wines like this from the same area have wildly over-delivered on quality for value. With huge flavours and textures conveying deep balance and "gravitas", this commanding wine delivers the experience of a place that was always meant to make some of the world's greatest cellaring wines. Only a few years from reaching its prime, this enveloping and generous style will not leave a single tastebud untouched.

Its Origins

"The transformation at Le Pupille over the last few years has been nothing short of remarkable. Winemaker Luca d'Attoma has this reference point estate poised to make some of the best wines yet. With the 2013 vintage proprietor Elisabetta Geppetti and D'Attoma have introduced casks and barrels with wider staves, both of which help wines mature at a more gradual pace. Its great to see Le Pupille back on track." Antonio Galloni

What The Critics Say

93-95/100 Antonio Galloni Vinous

"The 2013 Saffredi wraps around the palate with remarkable depth and intensity. Graphite, smoke, wild flowers, black cherries and plums meld together in a powerful, resonant wine built on intensity. The 2013 has a real sense of gravitas, with dark shades of fruit, expressive balsamic-inflected overtones and plenty of nuance."

95/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner (2012 vintage)

"The excellent 2012 Saffredi is one of the best wines I have tasted from Fattoria le Pupille. This is an exuberant and expressive blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a smaller part Petit Verdot from the gorgeous hills of Maremma near Grosseto, Tuscany. The wine is rich and penetrating with a stunning sense of balance and inner poise. Dark cherry, blackberry, spice, leather, tobacco and grilled herb flow freely from the bouquet. The wine is softly textured with full body appeal. This fabulous Saffredi should age forward ten years or more. The Cabernet component of the wine shows perfect ripeness."
