2020 Greywacke Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Greywacke is the Marlborough label of Kevin Judd, and the fulfilment of a long held dream. The name Greywacke was adopted by Kevin and his wife Kimberley for their first Marlborough vineyard located in Rapaura, named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of the vineyard. Kevin registered the name back in 1993 with the vague notion that he might one day want to use it on a wine label of his own. This quality focused winemaking venture sources fruit from mature vineyards within the central Wairau Plains and the Southern Valleys. The wines are made by Kevin at Dog Point Winery in the lower Brancott Valley, a facility extended to him by long-standing friends and industry colleagues, Ivan Sutherland and James Healy.
What The Critics Say
94/100 JamesSuckling.com, Nick Stock
"A very fresh, lime and grapefruit nose with a gently herbal thread, as well as green passion-fruit notes. The palate has a captivating fusion of fresh acidity and rich, fleshy fruit flavours. Zesty and intense.’
95/100 Bob Campbell MW
"A classic yin and yang sauvignon blanc with passionfruit and guava flavours contrasting with lime juice, green capsicum and lemongrass, while a sweet-and-sour contrast builds a delicious tension. Nice purity and length."
95/100 The Real Review, Nick Butler (2019 vintage)
"Vibrant yellow colour from centre to rim. The nose is instantly charming: smoky and faintly reductive, lemon curd, minerals and dried herbs. Loads of moving parts. A latent sinewy spine adds intrigue, lemongrass and jasmine. A measured leesy texture with just enough flesh. A classy young expression of the variety. 27 JAN 2020."
