70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc
Chateau Poesia was purchased by Helene Garcin and Patrice Leveque in early 2014. The estate was formerly known as Chateau Haut Villet. The name, Chateau Poesia, which translates as Poet, comes from the family's property in Mendoza Argentina where they produce wine from 13 hectares of old vine, un-grafted Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in 1935. Helene Garcin continues to expand her vineyards. She also owns several other Right Bank estates including Chateau Barde Haut in Saint Emilion and Clos LEglise in Pomerol. The 9.7 hectare Right Bank vineyard of Chateau Poesia is planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is well situated on a high plateau. Their terroir is clay and limestone soils. Their Right Bank estate has a total of 13.2 cultivated hectares. There are 9.7 hectares of vines located in St. Emilion and 4.5 hectares situated in Cotes de Castillon. The vines are average close to 30 years of age. However there are old vines. In fact, some of the vines are more than 70 years of age!
What The Critics Say
93-95/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
"The 2019 Poesia is a real beauty. Pliant and seductive in the glass, with striking depth, Poesia is absolutely gorgeous in 2019. Plush fruit and soft curves give the 2019 so much pure appeal. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice and licorice all meld together in sumptuous Saint-Émilion that will drink well right out of the gate. Sweet floral notes resonate on the effortless finish. Tasted next to Barde-Haut, Poesia offers a touch more freshness. Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and Patrice Lévêque turned out a gorgeous set of 2019s. The wines are deep, ample and so expressive. Readers who want to understand the diversity of Saint-Émilion will find that in Barde-Haut and Poesia, two wines that really capture the personality of the vintage in these two districts."
92-94/100 Vinous, Neal Martin
"Poesia is terrific in 2018. An exotic mélange of dark red cherry, plum, spice, leather and cedar envelops the palate. A wine of density, power and textural resonance, the 2018 is shaping up to be one of the under the radar gems of the vintage. Quite frankly, I am blown away by the wine's balance at this admittedly very early stage. The 2018 might be the best Poesia yet. The blend is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc."
92-94/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Lisa Perroti-Brown
"Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Poesia is a little closed to begin, soon opening out to reveal wonderfully pure notes of crushed red and black plums, fresh blackberries and warm cherries with nuances of allspice, aniseed, potpourri and forest floor. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound, featuring loads of mineral sparks and a wicked backbone of freshness, with very fine-grained tannins to support, finishing long and vibrant."
