2019 Stonecroft Reserve Syrah
The first winery to be established in the Gimblett Gravels Wine growing District, Stonecroft is a small boutique winery owned by Dermot McCollum and Andria Monin, who bought the property in 2010 and live on the Roy’s Hill Vineyard with their two children. Stonecroft is well known for its Syrah, Zinfandel, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay wines, and has the claim for the oldest Syrah vines in the country! Only organic practices are used and both the two original vineyards and the winery are fully certified organic with AsureQuality. The third vineyard is in conversion to organic status. Total production is small, with only 2,000 to 2,500 cases produced annually.
What The Critics Say
96/100 Cameron Douglas MS
"Alluring, complex bouquet with aromas of aged meats and white pepper, a core of dark currants and dried raspberry, some chocolate and dark baking spices, smoke and dusty gravelly soils. On the palate - equally complex, fruity and dry. Flavours mirror the nose with firm chalky tannins, pepper and contrasting acidity. A delicious wine with flavours of beetroot chocolate cake, aged meats, raspberry and violets, stony mineral and oak." Drink 2022 - 2030
96/100 Bob Campbell MW
"Dense, well-structured syrah with plum, raspberry, cocoa powder, black pepper and chocolate-mocha flavours. It has the power and intensity of a long-distance runner while a core of sweet, ripe fruit flavours allow it to be appreciated now. 26 FEB 2021." Drink 2021 - 2029
