2015 Stonecroft Reserve Syrah
The first winery to be established in the Gimblett Gravels Wine growing District, Stonecroft is a small boutique winery owned by Dermot McCollum and Andria Monin, who bought the property in 2010 and live on the Roy’s Hill Vineyard with their two children. Stonecroft is well known for its Syrah, Zinfandel, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay wines, and has the claim for the oldest Syrah vines in the country! Only organic practices are used and both the two original vineyards and the winery are fully certified organic with AsureQuality. The third vineyard is in conversion to organic status. Total production is small, with only 2,000 to 2,500 cases produced annually.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Cameron Douglas MS
"Intense yet reserved, varietal and ripe, soft pepper spices, no mistaking the oak - yet not overdone, complex and intriguing bouquet. On the palate - a tense, youthful and dry wine packed with flavour and complexity, youthful and poise. Dark berry fruit flavours, toasty and spicy oak, plenty of acidity and tannins to match, long finish, just beginning to unfold. One to watch, one to cellar."
93/100 Bob Campbell MW
"Fine-boned and quite dense syrah supported by a firm structure of drying graphite-like tannins. Tight and rather closed with obvious cellaring potential. Elegance on a grand scale. A powerful wine with a lengthy finish 13 APR 2017." Drink 2017 - 2023
