A ripe yet elegant Chardonnay from one of California's finest climates for Burgundy varieties. Brewer-Clifton are a top quality producer making Chardonnay from three superb vineyards, which come together in this beautiful estate offering. Santa Rita is relatively close to the equator, but ripeness comes nice and slow thanks to cooling influence coming up the hills from the Pacific coast, which surrounds it on three sides. This perfect balance of power with flavour development and definition is here also given careful handling, no forced malolactic and neutral oak, making this a really serious expression of the grape and region.

Its Origins

Brewer-Clifton is owned by Jackson Family Vineyards. Established in 1996, Brewer-Clifton was born from Greg Brewer’s vision to produce world class wines from California’s Sta. Rita Hills appellation. Focusing on the Burgundian roots of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Brewer pays homage to France while forging an independent style that is uniquely Californian. The resulting wines embrace the power, pedigree and richness of Sta. Rita Hills that have become the trademark style of Brewer-Clifton. Sourcing from multiple estate holdings throughout Sta. Rita Hills, including the Machado, Hapgood, Acin and 3D Vineyard, Brewer-Clifton uses sustainable farming methods to achieve a balance between the site, the vines, and the microclimates in each parcel. This helps to ensure that the wines convey the characteristics inherent to each of the estate vineyard sites, with uncompromising quality.

What The Critics Say

92/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni (2015 vintage)

"The 2015 Chardonnay (Sta. Rita Hills) is a gorgeous appellation-level wine. Apricot pit, peach, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes nicely fill out the wine's ample frame. A hint of reduction on the finish adds a layer of nuance, but without overpowering the wine. This is a superb showing from Brewer-Clifton's largest-production Chardonnay."

92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Lisa Perrotti-Brown (2015 vintage)

"The 2015 Chardonnay is reared in a neutral barrel, with no malolactic fermentation. It has a full-on expressive nose of fresh grapefruit, white peaches and clotted cream with hints of fresh ginger and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, the spicy citrus fruit explodes in the mouth with tons of energy and a racy backbone, finishing long and savory."

91/100 Wine Enthusiast (2015 vintage)

"Seared lemon peels, densely packed honeysuckle, Brie rind and white-ash aromas show on the nose of this appellation blend from the regional superstars, which recently became part of the Jackson Family of wines. The palate is tightly wound with grapefruit pith and a lemon spray-laced acidity that provides ample structure, carrying the slightest bit of riper stone fruit at the core."
