A premium Chardonnay from a particularly cool spot in the legendary region of Russian River, Sonoma. On classic sandy-volcanic Goldridge soils, this vineyard in the Green Valley sub-region of Russian River is located where the fog seeps up into inland reaches, thus covering this area first and leaving it last. This ensures a longer ripening period to retain acidity and develop complex flavours. With ripe citrus and stonefruit balanced by a driving core of green fruit and mineral acidity, the Fog Dance is a super-fine expression of Californian Chardonnay. Stock is very low!

Its Origins

Hartford is an estate belonging to the Jackson Family holdings. Hartford’s wines are rare. Year after year, they rank among the most sought-after collectables from California. Since the 1994 vintage, owners Don and Jenny Hartford have built the winery’s reputation on limited-production, handmade, single-vineyard Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Old Vine Zinfandels from some of Northern California’s greatest vineyards. Hartford Family Winery is located in the town of Forestville, roughly 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. This is the heart of the famed Russian River Valley. In addition to their own estate, Hartford harvests fruit from a handful of prized vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley, Green Valley, Carneros, Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley. These are all high-reputation, low-yielding, sustainably-farmed sites situated in cool-climate sub-regions. Without exception, Hartford’s wines are intense, thought provoking and expressive of both variety and terroir. They have been served at the White House on many occasions and are staples on “Reserve” wine lists around the country. Since 2011, Jeff Stewart, a specialist in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel, has been in charge of winemaking.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Jeb Dunnuck

"The 2015 Chardonnay Fog Dance Vineyard comes from a hillside parcel in the cooler Green Valley portion of the Russian River. Barrel fermented and aged 16 months in 36% new French oak, it offers a huge nose of orange blossom, tangerines, and citrus oil, full body, a crisp, beautifully detailed, delineated texture, good acidity, and a big finish. Drink this elegant yet powerful Russian River Chardonnay over the coming 5-7 years. It’s terrific stuff."

94/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

"The 2015 Chardonnay Fog Dance Vineyard has turned out even better than I originally expected. Slate, crushed rocks, mint, lemon confit and white pepper are all perked up by bright acids. A hint of reduction adds character without overpowering the wine. Fog Dance remains one of the most distinctive wines in the Hartford Court range." Drink 2018 - 2023

94/100 Wine Enthusiast

"This is a substantial complex white, reduced nobly on the nose, with an exotic hint of oak spice and matchstick. Bright focused acidity lifts a grainy texture of mineral-laden stoniness, as high-toned aspects of tangerine and grapefruit underline the freshness that lingers with length."
