2018 Lime Hill Wairarapa Pinot Noir

95 Points Bob Campbell MW
In stock
A superb and super-elegant Pinot Noir from the limestone hills of Wairarapa. This delicious wine is made by Raphael Burki, winemaker for Johner, who has exploited a relatively elevated lime-rich slope in Wairarapa to make a concentrated and complex, Burgundy-styled Pinot. Well worth this price, this new label is a sophisticated red to decant now or cellar.
$44.99 in mixed 6+ or $49.99 per bottle

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

"Lime Hill Vineyard is the joint wine venture of Karl Johner of Johner Estate at Gladstone with his winemaker Raphael Burki. The small vineyard is close-planted to a density of 6,000 vines per ha, on limestone soil with a thin layer of clay topsoil, and has 0.4 ha of predominantly Mendoza clone Chardonnay and 0.9 ha of Pinot Noir, clones, 667, 777, 115, 10/5, Abel and 5, established in 2013. The hillside vineyard, east of Masterton sits at 280 m.a.s.l. and clearly designed to follow the burgundy model." -- Raymond Chan
