Rich and refined, this premium Pinot gets the full treatment. Only the best fruit is selected from Amisfield's very best spot — a north-facing rocky knoll — and fermented with indigenous yeast in open barrels and tank. After soaking for a full 21 days, this jam-packed intensity is pressed to the best French oak to spend a further 18 months becoming even more superb. Pure class and quality, it doesn't get better in this old school Central style. Stocks are limited!

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

Amisfield was established in 1988, a Central Otago based specialist producer of pinot noir and aromatic white wines created from fruit grown on the estate vineyard beneath the Pisa Mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. This privately owned company's 200ha property, once a prominent high country merino station, is one of the largest single vineyard estates in the Central Otago region. Over 80ha is currently planted with the majority of the vines being over ten years old. A state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard and produces 20,000 -30,000 cases of wine annually. Pinot Noir accounts for over 60% of the production with the balance made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling. This wine is made from 9 clones of pinot noir and grown on several different soil types, adding complexity to the wine.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Amisfield's flagship pinot noir is a low yielding section of their vineyard known as Rocky Knoll (hence RKV). A fine-boned, elegant pinot noir with floral, violet, cherry, plum and spice flavours. A little closed right now but with obvious potential for bottle development. 11 OCT 2019." Drink 2019 - 2028

92+/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski

"The mocha-scented 2016 RKV Reserve Pinot Noir shows a hefty oak component married to bold cherry fruit. It's a big, muscular style, full-bodied but not entirely inelegant, with a long, silky-textured finish and hints of wild thyme and clove. I suspect it will be better after a year or two in the cellar."

96/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2015 vintage)

"Complex, and enticing bouquet of Pinot Noir. Aromas and flavours of baking spices, wood spices, toasty oak, soft dried herb and a core of red berry fruits. Dry on the palate with chalky and dusty tannins, medium+ acidity and flavours of dark cherry and baked raspberry, clove and vanilla spices. Complex lengthy finish. A delightful complex wine that will continue to age for several years. Decant for service with an ideal drinking window of 2022 through 2030+ if well cellared."
