We landed our latest French container last night. Unloading containers is a pretty hands-on affair here at Caro’s. It’s dropped off in the carpark and checked by John before we anxiously pop it open and see what we’ve got. ‘Anxiously’ because we never know exactly what we’ll be looking at. We’ve had the odd case that’s fallen over inside, whole stacks that have slowly become ‘leaning towers’ and need to be carefully deconstructed like Jenga, and we’ve even had one disastrous container that was completely frozen when someone between Europe and Auckland decided to switch the temperature to sub-zero! That container couldn’t be saved unfortunately. This one however was in great shape. An army of helpers is assembled and it’s all unloaded by hand, stacked in the car park, wheeled inside and stacked again out the back.
On board this container was a bunch of fantastic French wine to restock our shelves, including several new wines and producers for us. It’s all in-store now.
