2020 Prats & Symington Post Scriptum

Grape
Mainly Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca
Its Origins
The brand showing the P + S logo is a collaboration between the Symington Port house and Bruno Prats, the former owner of Chateau Cos d’Estournel in Bordeaux. Symington began when Andrew James Symington established himself in Porto in 1882. His subsequent acquisition of three important Port houses Warres, Dows, and Grahams became a legacy passing to his three sons, while many further acquisitions accrued a family portfolio of top quality estates whose practices and reputations have endured until the present day. This has included forward thinking and innovation too, as exampled by the collaboration with Bruno Prats. After Cos d’Estournel was sold, Prats embarked on collaborations in Chile and South Africa before being approached by his friends the Symingtons. Launched by its first wine Chryseia, the concept of Prats and Symington was to create a new cosmopolitan genre by applying Bordeaux production standards and techniques to the best red varieties and vineyards of Portugal’s Douro. Taking Portuguese wine to slightly new territory, the reception of the Chryseia and their other offerings have helped to alter the international perspective on premium, age-worthy Portuguese reds.
What The Critics Say
90/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Mark Squires
"The 2020 Post Scriptum de Chryseia is a blend of 51% Touriga Franca and 34% Touriga Nacional, with Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca for the rest, aged for 12 months in used French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This adds some wood aromas and depth to the Prazo, plus a bit more of a backbone. There's some grip on the finish in a polished package that drinks decently now, but it can still improve. This is a good deal, with some upside potential." Drink 2022 - 2033
90/100 Wine Spectator
"Offers lovely violet and spice box aromas, which accentuate flavors of blackberry tart and black plum reduction, dried marjoram and dark chocolate shavings. Well-balanced and fresh, with a minerally finish. Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. Drink now through 2027."
92/100 Wine Enthusiast (2019 vintage)
"This is the second wine of Bordeaux winemaker Bruno Prats and the Symington family's Chryseia. It has a fine balance that has light tannins contrasting comfortably with black currant fruits. There is some aging potential in this wine."
