Felton Road is situated on warm, north facing slopes of glacial loess soils in Bannockburn, in the heart of Central Otago. It dates back to 1991 when Stewart Elms planted the Elms Vineyard on Felton Road. Blair Walter has been winemaker here since 1996, right from the start. The total vineyard area is now at 32 hectares. The modern gravity fed winery receives 100% estate grown fruit from its three vineyards that are all farmed biodynamically and are fully certified by Demeter. Minimal intervention in the winemaking with such practices as wild yeast, no fining or filtration, allow the unique vineyard characters to further express their considerable personality. Since the first vintage in 1997, Felton Road has acquired a formidable worldwide reputation.

"The nose leads with white florals and crushed stones that overlay aromas of pear, cucumber and lemon zest. The palate is surprisingly expansive as the acidity perfectly integrates with the weight and depth of fruit. A bold and expressive dry Riesling with considerable drive and length. Salivating and contemplative of its schist soils origin."

"Intense, dry riesling in a distinctive and familiar style with oyster shell, mineral, lime zest, orange blossom and Granny Smith apple. I recall early vintages that were incredibly austere, but the wine has for some years achieved a comfortable balance between a hint of sweetness and assertive, fruit acidity. I like the youthful enthusiasm of this wine. Others might prefer the more mellow authority that results from careful cellaring 13 OCT 2019."

"Based on low-yielding vines in schisty soils at Bannockburn, in Central Otago, this wine is hand-picked in The Elms Vineyard and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The 2019 vintage (5*) is well worth cellaring. Bright, light lemon/green, it is attractively scented, medium-bodied and youthful, with intense, lemony, slightly appley and spicy flavours, dry (4 grams/litre of residual sugar), finely balanced and long. Not at all austere in its infancy, it should be at its best 2022+."
