2020 Craggy Range Te Muna Pinot Gris
Craggy Range began with the desire to create a legacy. When Terry Peabody visited New Zealand in 1997 he was introduced to Steve Smith, MW. Terry sensed an exciting possibility in New Zealand; the exceptional climate and spirit of the people aligned with his own philosophy and desire to cut a new path. He wanted to create wines that would become internationally regarded as New World classics. The two men made an important decision from the beginning - to select and source the best land in the country, and to plant the vines perfectly suited to that soil and climate. The winery - one of the most technically advanced ever built in New Zealand - is known for uncompromising standards and meticulous craftsmanship.
What The Critics Say
Winemaker notes from current 2019 vintage
"Pale golden straw. Aromatic meld of poached pear, brioche, red apple and crystallised ginger. Beautifully structured on the palate with varietal fruit richness tempered by a lovely line of acidity to create an elegant, almost dry finish. Multiple French clones of Pinot Gris from Te Muna Road Vineyard are hand harvested together for freshness of flavour and carefully pressed to extract the purest juice and lovely spicy notes from this fragrant cultivar’s skins. Slow but warm fermentations then create a lovely round palate feel to counter the vibrancy of fruit which is a hallmark of our Te Muna Road Vineyard."
