Its Origins

Craggy Range began with the desire to create a legacy. When Terry Peabody visited New Zealand in 1997 he was introduced to Steve Smith, MW. Terry sensed an exciting possibility in New Zealand; the exceptional climate and spirit of the people aligned with his own philosophy and desire to cut a new path. He wanted to create wines that would become internationally regarded as New World classics. The two men made an important decision from the beginning - to select and source the best land in the country, and to plant the vines perfectly suited to that soil and climate. The winery - one of the most technically advanced ever built in New Zealand - is known for uncompromising standards and meticulous craftsmanship.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Pleasingly textural chardonnay with intense grapefruit, tree fruits, nectarine, baguette crust and toasted almond flavours. A rich yet vibrant wine that is accessible now but should mellow nicely with a few years bottle age. 14 MAY 2021." Drink 2021 - 2026

Number 1 in Cuisine (2018 vintage) "Spicy, floral and lightly toasted aromas open to flavours of ripe nectarine and red apple with softly integrated nutty oak. Layered with generous warm fruit which is expertly balanced with fine acidity, this results in a wine that demands attention."

94/100 The Real Review, Huon Hooke (2019 vintage)

"Very light-yellow hue, with a smoked charcuterie sulfide-driven bouquet, some biscuity oak and nougat, the palate restrained, lean and tense, with good drive and length, but has yet to build richness. It's very dry, quite intense, and has heaps of potential. 18 JUL 2020."
