A crazy discount on what is so often a show-stopping Pinot Gris (the last vintage was rated #1 wine inCuisine!) It is made in a beautifully dry-to-off-dry style, with a lush richness balanced against a nice fresh finish. It is sourced from a famous single vineyard in the cooler but sheltered Marlborough climate of the Awatere Valley, this gorgeous , , which is y. Serious scores in this and past vintages prove Villa are safe hands for such an appealing and luscious, yet also ageworthy style.

Pinot Gris

Its Origins

In 1961, at just 21 years of age, George Fistonich leased five acres of land from his father in Mangere, Auckland and started off with just an acre of vines. He harvested his first grapes in 1962 and made his first wine under the name Villa Maria. Throughout the 1960s Villa Maria was a one-man band, with George’s wife, Gail, supporting him in his venture. He made dry red and white wines, sourcing grapes from the greater Auckland regions. In the early 1970s he started to employ staff and the company began to expand rapidly. Today, Villa Maria employs more than 250 permanent staff and exports wine to over 50 countries worldwide.

What The Critics Say

5 Stars & rated number 1, Cuisine Pinot Gris Tasting 2020 (2018 vintage)

"With flavours of bright apple, golden peach and pear and hints of subtle cinnamon spice, this wine encapsulates all that is not just good, but great about gris. An off-dry style and while not hugely textural it has exceptional balance, poise, palate weight, persistence, fleshiness and a seductive and moreish character. A wine to sit down and really relax with, so you can give it the attention it deserves."

94/100 Bob Campbell MW (2018 vintage)

"Intense and appealing wine with ripe peach, pear, honeysuckle and apple flavours with a hint of lime zest. A moderately weighty and smooth-textured wine that's a pleasure to drink now but will continue to please for several years yet. 22 JAN 2020."

94/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2018 vintage)

"Pure and ripe white-fleshed fruits with gently spiced red apple, D'Anjou pear and quince. Refreshing and lively in the palate with layers of white spice, white-fleshed fruit and a lesser led texture. Plenty of length, a hint of residual sweetness and warming alcohol. Great balance."
