5 Stars Cuisine

In stock

A massive discount on this superb Chardy which just scored 5 stars and a Top Ten postion in the Cuisine Chardonnay tasting ( beating out more expensive chardonnays such wines as Craggy Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay, Villa Maria Kelturn Chardonnay & Stonecroft Old Vine Chardonnay ) Also 93/100 from Bob Campbell, 94/100 from Wine Orbit and 93/100 from Cameron Douglas. The Soler label is being retired by Vidal hence the massive discount and it follows the Vidal's style, with juicy fruit and toasy oak rounded out by distinctly flinty, salty-mineral nuances. With body and texture balanced by significant complexity, the Soler is an extremely complete wine for this one-off discount price.

Its Origins

"Vidal Estate has a history stretching back to 1905 when it was established by Anthony Joseph Vidal who emigrated from Spain in 1888 to work for his uncle Joseph Soler, a pioneering winemaker. Under the ownership of the Villa Maria Estates group, Vidal Estate has grown to become its own identity, making distinctive and very high quality wines. With the stewardship of Hugh Crichton, winemaker since 2006, it can be argued that the wines have never been better." Raymond Chan

What The Critics Say

94/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"Gorgeously composed and tremendously appealing, the wine shows white flesh nectarine, rockmelon, nougat and roasted nut characters on the nose with a seductive whiff of gun smoke. The palate displays excellent weight and creamy mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by succulent fruit intensity and discreet oak infusion. At its best: now to 2026. $35.00. www.vidal.co.nz. April 2020." Drink 2020 - 2026

93/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Ripe, yet punchy chardonnay from a very good vintage with a strong struck flint-reductive character adding complexity to peach, tree fruit, citrus and nutty yeast lees characters. An impressive, high-energy wine that promises to develop well in bottle. 24/4/2020." Drink 2020 - 2026

93/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"The wine is gorgeously expressed on the nose showing golden peach, rockmelon, vanilla, flint and cedar characters with a touch of oatmeal complexity. The palate delivers excellent weight and concentration, wonderfully complemented by expansive mouthfeel and creamy texture, superbly structured by vibrant acidity. $35.00. www.vidal.co.nz. May 2019." Drink 2019 - 2023
