Another gorgeous, gently hedonistic Chardonnay from master Chardonnay winemaker, Tony Bish. Superb sources of Tony's favourite Mendoza clone of Chardonnay are hand-picked and fermented in the vessels that give the wine its name -- top quality French oak. This generous yet refined and expert wine is a must-try for Hawkes Bay lovers. A real go-to in our range for this price, the Heartwood is as classy as can be.

Its Origins

From the man at the helm of the Sacred Hill Wines. Tony has now started his own label and he will be producing only Chardonnay. The wine is clearly aimed at the 'old school' style of Chardonnay, exemplified best by his top Skeetfield label. But Tony's expertise allows the wines to remain elegant and refined, even while they are while big, bold and buttery. Experimentation in style and technique is meanwhile producing results in new styles such as his remakable, un-oaked Golden Egg Chardonnay.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2018 vintage)

"Charming bouquet of chardonnay with a medley of aromas led by yellow stone fruits in harmony with lees, butterscotch and sweet apple. Gentle creamy textures contrasted by acidity and the bite of wood accentuated by its natural spice and sweetness. Medium+ acidity and a core of peach and ripe citrsu fruit flavours. Youthful still so should be cellared for at least another year. Best from late 2020 through 2024+."

95/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2018 vintage)

"Pristine and complex at the same time, the gorgeously expressed bouquet shows white flesh stone fruit, fig, hazelnut and subtle vanilla characters, leading to a wonderfully weighted and rounded palate that is fleshy and velvety. It is sophisticated and delicious, making it a terrific drink. At its best: now to 2024. $35.00."

93/100 Bob Campbell MW (2018 vintage)

"Barrel fermented Mendoza clone chardonnay. A rich peaches-and-cream wine with a silken texture. Should appeal to a wide audience. Oak influence is subtle (despite its brand name) allowing fruit and nutty yeast lees characters to occupy centre-stage 26 JUN 2019." Drink 2018 - 2024
