The vineyard is nestled under Mount Tapuae-O-Uenuku (Maori" "Footprint of the Rainbow"). At the top of the Southern Alps, it strongly influences the climate, with its rain shadow bestowing low rainfall and low humidity upon the Awatere Valley. Along with sunny days and cool nights this creates perfect conditions for slow steady ripening and flavour development. Awatere grapes have a distinctive fruity yet steely and herbaceous flavour quite different to those produced elsewhere in Marlborough.
What The Critics Say
95/100 and #2 out of 86 Marlborough Suavignons, Bob Campbell MW
"A concentrated example of Awatere Valley sauvignon blanc with typical saline-mineral, green capsicum, nettle and tomato leaf flavours contrasting with subtle passionfruit flavours. A fresh and tangy wine with pleasing energy." Drink 2020 - 2023
4.5 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 vintage)
"Showing good vigour and intensity, the 2016 vintage (4.5*) is a lively, aromatic wine. Full-bodied and fresh, it has crisp passionfruit/lime flavours, slightly leesy notes adding complexity, and a dry (2.1 grams/litre of residual sugar), lingering finish."
