Back in 1986, David and Mark Mason, with friend and winemaker Tony Bish, began with a simple philosophy of making more wine than they could drink, and sharing the rest. They had the perfect place to make it happen, under the shade of Puketapu (sacred hill), along the white, volcanic cliffs and river land gravels of the Dartmoor Valley in Hawke’s Bay. They were precious days by the river with friends, family and food. Sacred Hill is recognised as one of New Zealand's leading, multi award winning wineries. Focusing on the production of premium 'handcrafted' varietal wines the company's estate vineyards are now located in New Zealand's leading grape growing regions of Marlborough, Hawke's Bay and Central Otago.
What The Critics Say
98/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim
"This is magnificently composed and immensely complex, showing white flesh nectarine, fig, vanilla, cedar and brioche characters on the nose, followed by an impressively concentrated palate that’s graceful and gratifying. The wine offers stunning depth and plush mouthfeel together with velvety texture and brilliantly pitched acidity, making it compelling and striking. At its best: 2024 to 2034. $70.00. www.sacredhill.com. Aug 2020." Drink 2024 - 2034
96/100 Bob Campbell MW
"Flagship chardonnay made only in favourable vintages. It has typical old-vine Mendoza clone concentration with peach, nectarine, bush honey, bready lees and spicy oak flavours. A weighty, textural wine with a proven ability to age well 07 AUG 2020." Drink 2020 - 2027
