2019 Langmeil Valley Floor Barossa Shiraz
Once a trading village established in 1842, this remarkable place is a captivating pocket of Australia’s wine and vine history that is a must when visiting the Barossa. Owned by the Lindner family, whose own mark on the Barossa spans six-generations of farming, food, community and wine, Langmeil is renowned for its preservation of old vines and the making of distinguished wines from these cherished sites. At the pinnacle of its winemaking is The Freedom 1843 Shiraz, made from what is understood to be the world’s oldest surviving shiraz vineyard believed planted in 1843 at the heart of this historical patch of Barossa earth.
What The Critics Say
93/100 The Wine Front, Gary Walsh (2018 vintage)
"Here we go. Tasted alongside the 2017, and more to my tastes, although that kind of does not come into assigning a score to an extent. Anyway, I reckon this would get the popular vote. The classic generosity of Barossa flavour on show here. Plum, chocolate, vanilla and some toasted coconut, slight sage and mint perfume. Full-bodied, but smooth and supple, even flow of flavour, fine powdery tannin, nice long succulent salted plum and berry stuff to close. This will be well received by many."
92/100 The Real Review, Huon Hooke (2018 vintage)
"Deep, dense red/purple colour. The bouquet is slightly muted but there's mocha and char-oak there, the palate full-bodied but not over the top, the focus tight. Oak is quite present but not overdone, the tannins earthy and graphite-like, almost tarry. A classic Barossa style of shiraz. And excellent value. 18 APR 2021."
