2019 Elephant Hill Pinot Gris

Grape
Pinot Gris
Its Origins
Reydan and Roger Weiss first fell in love with the beauty of Te Awanga when visiting from Germany in 2001. Together they envisaged owning a state-of-the-art winery, merging the traditional values of wine making with an innovative approach and contemporary style to produce exceptional wines to savour and enjoy. With the majestic elephant as their namesake and nestled against a backdrop of rolling hillsides, Elephant Hill spans over 25 hectares of vineyards producing classical, aromatics whites and world-class reds, helmed by winemaker Steve Skinner.
What The Critics Say
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS
"Bold and very expressive bouquet, pure ripe, a fruit core surrounded by a stony mineral and toasty spice layer. White peach and lemon, baked apple and white pepper, sea spray and a touch of oyster shell. Satin textured as the wine touches the palate with fruit spice, warming alcohol and a core of fruit delivering weight and intensity as well as flavour. A lovely long persistent finish with a lees and a moment of ginger spice. Perfectly balanced and ready for summer drinking from 2022 through 2026." Drink 2022 - 2026
93/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim
"Beautifully fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows Nashi pear, rockmelon, Gala apple and subtle spice notes, leading to a succulent palate displaying rounded mouthfeel and refreshing acidity. Harmonious and soothing, making it delightfully drinkable. At its best: now to 2023. $24.00. www.elephanthill.co.nz. Dec 2021." Drink 2021 - 2023
