Pinot Gris

Its Origins

Craggy Range began with the desire to create a legacy. When Terry Peabody visited New Zealand in 1997 he was introduced to Steve Smith, MW. Terry sensed an exciting possibility in New Zealand; the exceptional climate and spirit of the people aligned with his own philosophy and desire to cut a new path. He wanted to create wines that would become internationally regarded as New World classics. The two men made an important decision from the beginning - to select and source the best land in the country, and to plant the vines perfectly suited to that soil and climate. The winery - one of the most technically advanced ever built in New Zealand - is known for uncompromising standards and meticulous craftsmanship.

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes from current 2018 vintage

"Pale golden straw. A nose that over delivers in both fruit and spice intensity. Lifted nashi pear, apricot flesh and subtle freshly grated ginger. Great core of plush fruit, with a soft but linear acidity carrying the sweetness of fruit through the finish. A perfect varietal expression. Match with Pork cutlet, glazed turkey or crayfish dishes."

93/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2015 vintage)

"A beautifully expressed pinot gris, the bouquet shows elegant aromas of nectarine, fresh pear and floral with a hint of citrus lift. The palate delivers excellent fruit purity and harmony with a juicy mouthfeel. Lovely poise and balance, and the finish is delightfully long and appealing. At its best: now to 2020. $27.00. www.craggyrange.com. Oct 2015."
